i think there are programs out there that let you decrypt a wep key if you are already connected on the network, is that what you are talking about?

Since your rents are "paranoid" they probably changed the password. If thats the case use a Cat5 cable if you have one, of course.

There's a reset button on your router. Just reset it, then tell your dad that there must've been a power surge that erased the router data. Course, you can only tell him that if he's not really good with computers. That's what i'd tell my dad. Another option is if you have two wifi cards for the laptops, then you can do an ad hoc connection.
