Well I have this 250 gig western digital WD2500 Sata drive and i want to load linux and Vista on it since my 40 gig isnt gonna work, So I hooked it up and the bios pauses when it goes to detect the drives then after a long while it says theres nothing there...bummer

I took it connected it to my parents comp and was able to load linux onto it and leave a partitioned space for vista, I then went to see if the mobo would recognize it then but it didnt.

I have an elite group P800-M2 skt 478 mobo and i dont know if its just too big to be recognized? is there anything i can do?

First thing you do when new hardware wont work is update the BIOS. Im not a fan of ECS, so i dont know if theres an easy way to flash their boards. Go to their web site and look around. I'll look now but no promises.

Edit, it doesnt show a P800 mobo, but it has a m800-m skt 478... make sure you have the right model number before flashing ur mobo or u'll kill it. Heres the link to the M800-M BIOS update- http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Downloa...uID=35&LanID=9

Well theres 2 possiblities.

1. You havent asssigned the correct jumper priority to it ( Master or Slave )
2. Your Motherboard cant recognise drives of that size..This can happen and can be fixed with a BIOS update.

3. Try a different IDE/SATA cable.

Well i generalise just incase either SATA or IDE.

Also make sure that you have gotten SATA enabled in the BIOS. However make sure you have SATA RAID disabled in the BIOS as it can cause issues in rare cases.

Pretty much do all what they told you to do. So you have tried both the SATA ports on the board? Also is the driver for the SATA ports loaded on there.
Are you turning the computer off when you are putting the HD in?

Also you did enable the OnChipSATA and set the SATA Mode to IDE?

well don't think it is the HD, sounds like it would be more like a motherboard problem, as the hard drive works on your parents computer

true, but it would be a big hassel to buy a new mobo that would work with all the components I have, then take them off and put them on a new mobo and pray that the hdd works with the mobo
