Normally you would have to reinstall the software but since IE7 is an essential part of Windows you cannot uninstall it so the only thing left to do is to do a fresh Windows install.

My advice to you is to just forget about IE, there are better alternatives out there. Have you tried Chrome?
Oh and btw Firefox will slow down your PC only if YOU install lots of widgets/plugins/add-ons/whatever they're called so you don't really have to switch to another browser if you want a good browsing experience. Just make sure you don't install too much junk.

Maybe is an ie7 add-on that's causing it to freeze. Have you tried running ie7 with add-ons disable to see if it freezes? If you go under start>programs>accessories>system tools> you should see an icon for ie with the words no add-ons.

lolllllllllllll reinstall windows just because IE is junk, come on! seriously windows reinstall gets recommended far too quickly. Trying to cure a simple problem with reinstall is lazy

If you go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, at the bottom you will see Reset Internet Explorer Settings, click Reset, that will undo any changes that could have taken place. If that doesnt cure it, click the tab above that, Restore Advanced Settings!.

Unfortunately Microsoft disabled the full reinstall option, duhhh, such an annoying dumb company sometimes. But you might get some joy from those two resets, they are the only options for IE restore now.

Stick with Firefox, or maybe try Google Chrome, Chrome has an inbuilt Sandbox to keep all the bad stuff from your hardrive. Its an excellent safety feature none of the other browsers have at the moment. Its supposed to be as fast as Firefox also.
