Are you using wireless? Or is it just not working? Try going into the network settings first and seeing around.

I need to know:

What is your hardware?
What is your network? i.e., router dhcp's, etc. Is it wireless?

(I am guessing the internet is not working at all?)

If it is wireless, what model is your wireless card?

...anything else that will help.
