You might as well go 2600K if you're building a new pc

sandy bridge 2500K or 2600K the "K" is a unlocked model for overclocking.
and buy a motherboard that suits you for it.
It runs faster and it draw less watt than a i7 950 and overclocks better.

if you want a tri chan ram setup u will need a board like mine x58 - but its i7 1366 only. if you want to stick with the 1155 then u need dual channel memory.

My understanding is DDR3 tri channel is for the 12xx pin intel (3x sticks for tri channel) But 2x2 sticks of DDR3 works fine in 1156/1155 and am3

Your ram will have compatibility issue with the motherboard. It is because it is for triple channel memory like LGA 1366 eg.i7 900 series above or Xeon 3500 series and above.

So I suggest you to get anything with dual channel and not more than 1.65volts.

For graphic card, I suggest you to get GTX570. It is newer and it ran quieter and less heat than the previous generations. It is faster too.

Are you going to use SSD for the main storage? Why not invest a few more on hard disk so that you can store your photos and games.

am i wrong or not?
if been searching on the net for what is best on the 2600k and what for 950
so they said that 2600 is faster but 950 is better for games(because of better mobos) is that right?

because if thats right i go for the i7 950 because i mostly game on my pc
and the 950 is fast to when its overclockt i think
