Well...you are leaping to an entirely new GPU generation with the 7600. And you are going to a dual core AMD which is going to smoke the P4. Is your dad just trying to dissuade you from throwing money at a PC? What's the deal?

If you use your pc often and upgrade when needed, then it is not a waste of money, especially if you plan to have a career in the computer industry. Cause if you do, then spending money on pc parts can be a benefit, to help raise your knowledge. thats my .02 cents

My advice is this... Do a lot of research... present the facts (my computer will be 100-170% faster based on these numbers etc...) Be mature... and don't whine if they say no. Parents do change their minds y'know. Sometimes they're just waiting to see how you will respond to their authority.

But... you have less than 1% of your total projected money... so it looks like you're a loooong way away from getting a new computer anyway.

heh thats a great point.. i knew for about 5 years now that i was ment to build pc's and just a few months after my 18th bday i passed the only test there really is for being a custom pc builder.. i built my own pc. it is definatly something simple. as someone once described it as playing with lego's. i recomend that every child by the time they are 18 have this kind of knowledge... it will prepare them for the world of computers!!!

i say if your father wont let you do this. well he is a bad father... he is holding you back from being successful in the real world...

It is not the wisest choice to buy things with money you don't have. Save up and buy it later. Your computer will be faster because you'll be buying it later, you'll not be in any debt, thus, your parents will not be able to hold it against you and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you earned it all, its payed off, and it's all yours.

By doing it now your computer will be slower, and you will indirectly be giving your parents partial ownership of the computer.

"Mom I want to play the game!"
"Who payed for your computer?"
"You..."
"Then get off of it or we're selling it."

Just give it some thought... patience is terribly hard but almost always worth it.

Yep, I totally agree with that, Id wait till you have all the money in hand, then go and order you parts. Because prices will drop, and later on, youll be paying your parents for older hardware which you could have got for cheaper if you would have waited. Or you could have gotten better stuff for your money.

Stick to saving up your own money for your build because when parent pay for it, they'll really show you why you should have spent your own money in it, until your done paying them off
