Hi,
I am about to put together a system in raid, and I was looking at doing it this way: 4 7200 rpm drives in raid 0 and have a 5th drive(SSD) for my OS. Well my question is I was looking at different SSDs and seen something that makes me scratch my head, MLC and SLC, whats the real difference other then price?

Now with the system I am suggesting is it a problem to set this up? I will be using windows 7 64 so do I need to get some other drivers or will 7 have all I really need? I am just getting a 32g SSD with fast read and write speed. I really dont need much more right? just covering my bases before ordering.

SLC is a bit faster and has a longer life than MLC.

a 32GB SSD will be able to hold windows 7, but you will use up most of the drive on the OS.
Hey there. I left a partition of 30gb for my 7 install, and after I put office on the same one (oops) I have about 3gb's left. You shouldn't need any drivers either.

SLC's use a different technology that means they are more reliable and faster, but MLC has advanced enough, it's not really that much of a downside anymore. I'm QUITE happy with mine, as I know lots of others with MLC drives are.

Not necessarily true, if you move page and temp files to storage HD the install directory is only 7-8 GB's.

A good windows 7 install is around 10-12GB most of the time.

Some key programs usually go on the SSD too

Well I want to put as much of the OS on the SSD as I can but Also dont want to spend a toon on a OS HD so, I figured a 32g would be about right. And then put all the apps I run and games on my Raid system. Is that the best way to do it? And will 7200 rpms be a waste to put in raid 0? ANd of course I will have a 1.5-2t external drive for backup my important stuff.

Edit: WHat other app would you say put on the SSD?
Other apps are stuff you need to load fast.

My Buddies 32GB SSD has:
Windows 7
Open Office
CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) with MPC Home Cinema
Power DVD
FireFox
