so guys, this ongoing ping problem (over 2 months) is driving me insane.
first of all any help would be greatly appreciated :|
i'm on the Bigpond ADSL 25GB 1500/256 kbps plan basically.
i've called Bigpond tech support many times and some curry usually tells me reset my modem, mate I'm not that freaking stupid...so they're no help.

here are some tests that I ran:

all taken 19/11/2009 on around 11:00pm, Melbourne

let me know if you need any further info/tests
thanks upfront.

the ping plotter images are Bigpond gaming servers in Sydney and Melbourne.
the traceroute is a random gaming server on L4D.

Are you at a college? Also, I have the same question as DuckieHo, granted, they arn't private addresses, but still.

I think what DuckieHo is talking about is, are those from your ISP? Are they part of the backbone?

Also, be aware, you are going over the pacific, there is going to be some ping, just not that much.

Tell your ISP you want to be initiated directly to Tier 2 or Tier 3 support.
i know that, 203.46.104.xx is the network for Bigpond (Gamearena) web servers, public servers, and steam content server in Sydney.
and that 144.140.155.xxx is the network for most of the Bigpond public servers (that I play on) in Melbourne.
that's what I put in my ping plotter images above.
so not entirely sure about your question GH0.
I asking what the 172.18 IP's are used for? They are causing the delay, but, if you don't have access to it, then you need to call BigPond and tell them they have an issue.
i'm not sure specifically, but i'm certain that 172.18 is part of the Bigpond network.
but i will give them a call tomorrow morning and be more specific to them.
thanks alot guys

172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 is a private address area. It has to be your ISP doing some stupid things.
