My friend has:

PC Chips M916 v1.3a Motherboard
Intel Celeron 2.7GHz <- I know, bad
Ultra 512 DDR400 Memory
Radeon 9600SE 128MB/64-bit

Problem:

Some games (Far Cry, UT2004) run perfect at 1024x768, all medium-high settings.
Other games (NFSU2, Doom 3) run at about 8-15 FPS with 640x480 at low settings.

I am completely confused. Why is it running like that? NFSU2 and Doom 3 can't depend on the CPU that much that it would run at about 10 FPS, would it? Remember, Far Cry runs at medium at 1024x768 and UT2004 runs at 800x600 all on Normal.

What is the problem?

Well, the CPU is a salad...celery, get it? And the graphics card is not very wonderful.

Not surprised it dosen't like Doom3

Ok. One problem fixed, but still one more. I asked someone else, and they said the CPU might be a bottleneck, so raise the res on NFSU2 and see what happens. That did help and raise to 20-25 FPS.

One more problem though....

When he plays Doom 3 or NFSU2, he has to restart his computer before he can get good framerates on Far Cry and UT2004. If he doesn't restart his computer, he gets like 10-15 FPS, then restarts and gets about 80. What could be causing that?
