Hey guys, I had my Hitachi HDD fail on me and I'd like to send it back to Hitachi for a replacement as it's under warranty. According to their website's shipping requirements for RMAs I either ship it in the original box which is not possible as it was OEM from Newegg, or using one of their approved methods. Bubble wrap doesn't cut it and that's how I got it from the egg... Ideally I'd like to get some foam block packing from somewhere local but I wasn't able to find any in UPS stores, post offices, Staples and MicroCenter. The next places I plan on checking are craft stores... So does anyone have any experience with their RMA process? Or maybe recommendations on retail stores that would sell the foam block packaging?

Here's more info on the packaging:

THANKS!

That's some pretty strict requirements, but read Seagate has similar requirements. You could get a return kit (foam) for $15 --> https://www.wic-store.com/IBM-Hitach...-Pack_p_8.html
Do you still have your mobo box, that has some foam in it.

Luckily, I still have the boxed stuff (GeoSprings Kit) from Hitachi and a kit (free; foam packaging) from Gillware.

yah i know. I'm really surprised they don't take bubblewrap...

Bleh yeah I saw those
fifteen bucks is like a last resort. It just seems like you should be able to get black packing foam blocks from somewhere... I mean really.

I personally don't but my friend has his from his new rig. The only problem is that the dimensions don't match up. I

Maybe you should check out Home Depot or Lowe's. I don't recall seeing foam at office max while i checking for some packaging materials.

You could call Gillware and say you need one of their kits for data recovery (NOT!) and you should receive one within a week or more via UPS.

GL.

ESD bag and foam, and you should be all set.
