Hmm... Any good MMO's out there?

I've played a lot of MMO's. I want a new MMO... but I don't want the typical WoW-clone.
I think my expectations are unreasonable.

I want a game that:
- Isn't just a massive grindfest.
- Isn't so easy that everybody is capped in a week/month.
- Has SOCIAL aspects - heavy emphasis on emotes, clothing, housing, etc.
- AMBIANCE! This goes hand in hand with the one listed above.
- Good PvP - non-consensual is alright, but not 24/7. A reprieve is nice.
- Decent graphics. Adds to the ambiance, it has to look reasonable. Doesn't have to look like Crysis, but I don't want it to look like Runescape either.

MMO's I've played for more than a few days:

Age of Conan: Horribly disappointing.
Anarchy Online: Good, but the graphics now.

Asheron's Call: Most fun I've ever had in an MMO... but it's so dynamically different now. Graphics are tough to get past as well.
Asheron's Call 2: Ewwwwww.
Earth & Beyond: I actually liked this one.
EQ and EQ2: Too grindy/raidy.
EVE Online: I love this one every time I play it, for about a month. Then I forget to train, get bored, and stop playing. It's just missing *something* - I think it's a total lack of immersion.
CoH/CoV: Feels too... light. I enjoy the character creation more than the game. Haha.
Dark Age of Camelot: Good game. Graphics too dated.

Darkfall: Too buggy, and too hostile. Not just the open PvP, people are just jerkasses in that game.
Dungeons & Dragons Online: Meh....
Fallen Earth: Pretty good... but it feels almost a little TOO desolate. Everybody is running around grinding stuff and not socializing.
Guild Wars: Decent, but feels very 'light'.
Horizons: Hahahahaha...
Lineage 1+2: So Asian-grindy.
Lord of the Rings: Not bad, but the world felt very 'closed' and it felt a bit too WoW-ish. Haven't played since a few months after release though.
Matrix Online: Terribad.
Pirate of the Burning Sea: Actually not too bad, but feels more like a light multiplayer game than an MMO.
Ragnarok Online: Briefly. Not a fan.
Shadowbane: Loved it. Bugs killed it.
SWG: *cry* Pre-NGE was probably the best MMO. EVER.
UO: Of course. Can't go back, the old days will never be as good.
Vanguard: Feels too EQ-ish. Very grindy.
Warhammer Online: A blast from 1-25. Horribly boring after that.
WoW: Wasted too much time on this... and I honestly get restless every time I try it again, I hate it so much now. No idea why. Like, I get headaches.

Haha, yeah. See my problems?
Maybe MMO's just aren't for me anymore.

I would give LOTRO another shot, at least with another trial account. It's changed quite a bit since release, and there's another major expansion this winter. There's still a bit of grinding, but it's not the sole activity.

Aion maybe a good choice for you? endgame is mostly pvp oriented, the graphics are superb..

I was gonna suggest others, but you listed them in your games list already.

I think the game you want is pre-cu SWG. It is playable on small prvt emulation servers... but well it's basically gone.

Shaiya is pretty good but it doesn't have houses. The clothing/armor is awesome but limited to drops/trading you can't craft or **** like that. pvp is immense like, Really well thought out. Mass pvp... And you can pvp in a few hours (1-15pvp) etc..

Being able to substitute time for skill is a requirement for MMOs.

Kinda contradicts your last statement. MMO's by definition aren't hard, they are just time consuming.

Tibia. Despite the graphics you can rent houses and customize them with furniture/rare items that you can show off to any passers-by and there are quests you can do for additional clothing addons to bolster your e-peen.

Again Tibia. The recent updates have basically replaced any skill with an integrated aimbot, but the continual power struggle between the top guilds makes it interesting. PVP is non-consensual but there are restrictions that balance it all out. You lose experience/skills and potentially items(that your killer can loot) when you die too, so its quite a rush.

But the game you want doesn't exist. From what I can tell you basically want a mix of a DoTA style game like Heroes of Newerth or Demigod, mixed in with aspects Second Life with the polish of Dragon Age.

Such a game will never exist though. One of the major reasons MMOs are so popular is that if you suck at the game you can just grind levels and kill lowbies. If you make the game challenging and fun then the people that aren't very good (typically the vast majority) won't want to play the game and you'll never get enough players to support the servers.

Watch this 9 minute video and I think it makes the answer fairly clear
I'm really enjoying this game and I'm amazed how great it looks and feels.

If you can't take the grind go and play a different type of game. If a grind turns you away, you are going to miss 50% of the games anyway.

No point in linking Aion since you have to grind for a good 10 days or so worth of in game time.

You are going to have either a game with grinding or a game with repetitive questing. Take your pick. It's the way MMO's work.

I was going to suggest EVE. I've been playing it for over 3 years now, although I take regular breaks from it every few months. It is mainly the "0.0" alliance politics/warfare, and the market system, that keep me playing.

When I mention alliance warfare, I like the roaming ops, and the territorial battles, but not so much the POS warfare. Although in the next update (next few weeks I believe), the new update is being added which removes POSes effect on territory, they've added a few new things for this, which is intended to remove most of the slog that you face when the enemy has stopped fighting, and you're just trying to finish them off.

As for Fallen Earth, I agree with you, seems like a great game, but there aren't enough people around yet. I keep re opening the chat channel, not just for help, but also for converstion (passed the cut off level for it a while ago). I feel that this game needs a few more months (or even almost a year) for the population to get high enough for it to feel social. Although I haven't joined a clan on it, I would imagine they were more social.

Well, for massive grinding, I was more referring to Korean styled MMOs. The WoW grind is fine, a little too easy even. Sorry to have confused.

I will check out Tibia.. I can get past graphics, I do play Dwarf Fortress.

Thanks all.. +REP.

Your not gonna find a game thats gonna blow you away seeing that list of all the MMO's you've already tried. I would say its obviously time for you to retire your MMO career.
