HD died so i got a new one and got some more ram... its a intel 855 chipset so i kno tht it can handle 2gb of ram, but it wont boot when i put in 1 1gb stick or 2 1gb sticks... i've checked for bios updates and chipset drivers, but no luck... and yes it is the right kind of ram... any ideas??????

I would suspect problems with the RAM, consider exchanging them from the manufacturer. They may be bad sticks.

According to Crucial's website, this ram is compatible:

Part #: CT405151 • DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64

How do the modules you have compare spec wise?

It wont work, especially on a laptop motherboard. I've done it before on OEM boards built by ASUS, but they still have problems running right. Besides, it isnt a bios issue, its a compatibility issue.

just go to the store and keep buying the correct ram till it works. it's a compatibility issue. your unit is picky
