horizontal spanning across 3 screens possible with ati 4870 ?

Does anyone know, under Vista x64.. if there is a way to make the outputs of 3 ports over two ati cards span 3 screens.. ie: not extended view, nor clone, but span?

In particular, i'm trying to find a way, so i can have a unified spanned FSX main ****pit window across all 3 screens..

I'm trying to avoid plunking down $300 and creating a complex setup so i can switch back and forth between the matrox triplehead2go and regular resolution on each screen (disabling the matrox unit when not gaming).. this would require a bunch of splitters which may or may not even work.

My screens are 24" widescreens, native res of 1920x1200.

Thanks

I've never owned an ati card, but with nVidia, even through SLi using more then two monitors is a no-go from what I've read. As far as I know you need one card that natively supports 3/4 monitors. Some of the newer multi-gpu cards support this like some of the incoming 4850x2's.

Yeah there is no span option on the card drivers..

I'm leaning towards just getting the triplehead2go dvi.. one user with 24's claimed he could up the bottom end to x1200 with a custom setting, but he had nvidia.. maybe i can with ati too.. and avoid my messy wiring idea to flip it on and off..
