All the hype and excitement of looking forward to Diablo III has made me look back fondly at my early teen years and what was in my humble opinion the greatest few years gaming has ever seen or ever will see.
Check this list out..
Duke Nukem 3d, Jan 1996 http://www.gamespot.com/duke-nukem-3d/platform/pc/
Quake, June 1996 http://www.gamespot.com/quake/
Diablo, November 1996 http://www.gamespot.com/diablo/
Quake II, November 1997 http://www.gamespot.com/quake-ii/
Unreal, April 1998 http://www.gamespot.com/unreal/platform/pc/
Star Craft, April 1998 http://www.gamespot.com/starcraft/
Descent Freespace, May 1998 http://www.gamespot.com/descent-freespace-the-great-war/
Half Life, October 1998 http://www.gamespot.com/half-life/
Descent Freespace II, September 1999 http://www.gamespot.com/freespace-2/
Unreal Tournament, November 1999 http://www.gamespot.com/unreal-tournament/
Diablo II, June 2000 http://www.gamespot.com/diablo-ii/
Deus Ex, June 2000 http://www.gamespot.com/deus-ex/
Just look at that list. In 4 years we had 12 games that will be known until the end of freaking time. 12 games that every single gamer on the face of the planet has heard about. Honestly there are even a few more that I left out but could have put in there.
I DARE anyone to find me 4 years of gaming (pref PC gaming) that can come remotely close to touching those 4 years. Try, you will fail
