I use some about:config customizations to speed up Firefox a little bit in order to help me experience the full potential of my internet speed.

So in about:config, use these values:
  • network.http.max-connections-per-server: 20
  • network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 50
  • network.http.pipelining: true
  • network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 100
For those values of 20, 50 and 100: I just used bigger values than I probably need to just be sure.
Try these values out and see what the difference is.

Put firefox's cache on a ramdrive, might help a little with loading known content.
my internet is really slow and im paying pretty much, youtube videos never load all the way and utorrent just works the first 2 minutes after i start the program then it looses connection. i called my phone company´s help line and he told me i needed to open ports.

That might help you but i havent had time to try it, to busy at school right now.
there are 3 computers in the house, mom and dad are running XP, im running W7 and my sister is running linux ubuntu and her internet is blazing fast

lol it could always be way worse. This actually not bad. But use the about:config changes I posted and also use YouTube to search for Firefox tweaks to make it faster.

Damn dude. There are people who would be on cloud 9 to have even half that speed. Did you do my about:config tweaks yet?

At least yours isn't as weird as mine...

I think my ISP gives me that bandwidth only when I run that test, since I have never seen a download over 1.5mbps.

@ two cables yeah tried the tweaks....

Hmmm Im wondering if someone was on my computer and forgot to use Common Sense 2010....
You say your sisters 'net is "blazing fast" and she is using Linux. My first guess is you have multiple programs accessing/hoggin bandwidth on your machine. I just downloaded a program yesterday (can't remember the name, I'm at work right now) that tells you what programs are accessing the internet on your machine.

That, or you have too many programs running. Try downloading chrome and see if it speeds it up any.

I think you might be experiencing something that I experience with everything: once I'm used to it, I forget how cool or fast it is.
