How can I tell which drivers I need to update for any of the components to my PC? Is there a program I can download that tells me what versions of drivers I've got? Or do I go in and find out individually what driver version I've got and go from there.

This is for my family computer:
Dell Dimension 8400
P4 3.0Ghz
RADEON X300
512MB RAM (not sure of brand)
Integrated Sound
Not sure what the Mobo is.

if its a dell its some intel board
get a new mobo

cpuz will tell you alot of the info on what board it is
at least the chipset

and intel should have all the latest drivers at their site if u still want that board

try the omega drives for your GFX card
nothing else seems necesary
maybe upgradee your bios

Well, I can say one thing is for sure. This computer isn't going to get any upgrades, except for some RAM and mabey a sound card. It's not my computer to mess around with, so nothing major is going to change.

The rig he's talking about only has 512 in it.

Just go to the manufacturer's site for each component. Download the latest update. Then just update all your components manually.

You don't change a Dell motherboard. It's no use, either you make a new PC but you don't change motherboards like this. Dell even made a change to Windows XP so if you change motherboards, some programs might not even work after because they depend on something specific on that motherboard, and then you need all new drivers.

thats why you back upyour music and game saves and stuff
and then you use your CD key from your DELL's XP
and install it with a new XP installation
after formatting the HDD
using all you old parts
except MOBO

ive done it
