How do people aim so well in console fps?

I got the xbox and halo reach, was watching some videos of expert kills and stuff like that in halo multiplayer, was impressed by how accurate these guys are with the xbox controller!

I can aim okay but not like these guys. Do the pros always use the controller? any additional accessories? Or do they use one of those adaptors that lets you use a keyboard and mouse to play?

they dont aim that well. just good comaired to other console players,

why do you think cross platform never took off.. even newb pc players with track ball could stomp the life out of a pro xbox player.
Its just practice and time put in like any video game. As good as some Xbox players are they still don't compare to PC players (this comes from someone that played Halo CE and Halo 2 on pc and xbox/xbox360.)

haha halo vanilla port was so funny, i can play on newb with xbox controller, but i ran thru it in legendary on pc becuase it was the same extact game as xbox version and was set to turtle aiming time.
I have a buddy that uses a 360 controller on PC. I went over a mutual friend's house the other day and he was on the couch playing CS:Source gun game with a xbox 360 remote.. It was insta-face palm all over the place.
Consoles have auto aim...which unfortunately cross over PC every now and then. For example, Just Cause 2...as much as I love the game...its auto-aim drives me nuts. Especially when I shoot the motor cycle instead of the guy standing next to it with a shot gun shooting at me even though my sights are on the guys head

However, a few rare people can get really damn good with those controllers. I have seen a guy playing a PC game (meaning no auto aim) with an XBOX controller and he can snap the analog stick from head shot to head shot. It is amazing to see. However, the same guy will get killed from the sides far more often then me since he doesn't look around as much as I do with the mouse...so he will always have more kills than me, but I will always have less deaths.

The day keyboards and mice can be used on a console in the same fashion as they are used on PC right now...i will likely never upgrade my PC for gaming again. However the few attempts to do so don't really work all that well yet. The mouse won't act like a mouse...it will still act like an analog stick. Quickly moving the mouse to the right does nothing different than slowly moving the mouse to the right.

My aiming was dreadful when I came over from the PC world. I almost gave up on consoles completely until I started playing on a monitor. I am 10x better on a 20" monitor than I am on a 55" TV. Even when the TV is in "game mode" I'm still horrible. I have been playing BF3 and lately my kill/death ratio is around 1.7 on my 20" monitor. When I go and play on my dad's 55" Samsung LED I'm lucky if my kil/death ratio is .8. I'm not sure if TVs still have a hint of lag or if my eyes just can't scan fast enough over the big screen. For me it's definitely the screen size.
Some people use hardware mods/extras to make a keyboard and mouse work just like on PC

Screen size alone does not matter.... You have to consider resolution and viewing distance as well.
The only FPSes I can play on consoles and still have good aim on are CoD titles, but I don't really play CoD any way., I find all other FPSes easy to use with a mouse, since I started PC gaming.

It's just a lot of practice, and finding the right sensitivity for you.

This. Console games are designed to even the playing field for an enjoyable experience, auto-aim helps lesser skilled players enjoy the game also.

I found this too, I switched from my lousy 32" lcd 720p tv to my 24" 1080p dell monitor and i did much better. The monitor had a much better quality image so I was able to make things out easier I think that affected it.

same, i play on a 25" 1080p HDTV that i also use as my main monitor, i tried to play on my 42" in the living room...man did i fail bad.....i did even worse when i tried to play PC BF3 on my 42" TV, went back to my 25" and all was good
The only auto-aim I've seen in Black Ops/Modern Warfare 3 is when not using ADS. Which is pretty much useless.

So not true. Many people may claim this, but this is def not true. Only some games have auto-aim and many "good players" actually turn it off cause it actually hurts you more than it helps.

It comes down to muscle memory. Just like pc gamers.

Many people want to bash on one or the other but lets see some 1337 pc gamer go over to console and see how good he will do, I promise he will rage quit when matched against skillful player/players.
In the other hand its the same if a 1337 console player came to pc.

People play on certain platform cause that is what they are used to.

Ive played on all platforms so dont listen to guys that are one sided and are fanboys of what they play.

Time playing will hone skills.

no Halo does not have auto aim, neither does BF3 I belive. CoD is one of the few games that brings auto aim to the console community.
I have several friends that compete in MLG on Black Ops and I can tell you it is just lots of practice. Like 6-8 hours on school days and 14-16 hours a day on the weekends. It is very much a full time job to compete at the highest levels.
