How fast can you build a computer?

It took me about an hour for my latest build but if i had to do it again, i think i could easily do it in 30 minutes. That doesn't include installing Vista either.

If i remember correctly, when I used to work at a computer store, I can put together a basic computer in under 23 minutes.
Well when I took everything out, on my first build, to remount my CPU, it took me less then 1 hour to put everything back and hook it up in a nice fashionably manner.
My friend Spaghetti Kitty says he can do it in 15 minutes.

I bet there is some type of record out there for a build. I wonder what it is?
as for the record, it would really vary depending on the hardware used. Honestly, it doesnt take very much to put together a computer. However, to build one well (ie hide all the cables etc) takes much longer.

Building the computer is the fast and easy part, its the cable management that kills me and i end up taking forever, especially in terrible cases that have bad cable management or no holes to use.

Where are you starting it at though? Taking out the stuff from shipping and then original boxes and wrapping?
It's hard to time people if they don't have the same things. Some boxes are done worse than others. So much factors to this. Though, I always take my time. Speed does not mean anything to me. I take like 2-3 hours. (I know NOOB, but I like it) I also include installing Vista and programs. Then the updates take even longer than 3 hours then. Sometimes longer because I don't know what to install.

It's not a process i want to rush, so i do a good job and take a couple hours.
I can build one in under 30 min easily, however it will have crappy cable management. I usually spend LOTS of time on a new build, making it look nice, hiding all the wires possible, and double and triple checking everything, especially if it is watercooled.

Are you including shipping times for parts delivery in that estimate?

Assembly times vary, depends on the components used, case type, fans, accessories, cooling method and system, etc.

A basic mobo drive and monitor with psu and ram can be assembled very quickly. Add aftermarket cooling and case mods and the numbers go up into the weeks, and eat up all your spare time.

Usually though, once you have built your own first rig, you will never pay someone else to do it for you ever again!

this is all relevant to the specific build.

I had to strip down and put back together a computer at my school for a skills USA competition. It took me 9 minutes.

I put my computer together in about 4 hours. that was with water and i took my time because that was fun.
18, I rush it hard. Get it to power on and then fix it

A couple of hours maybe 3.
I take my time, usually an hour or so just to put it together. I like to double and triple check everything, cable management, etc.

When I've been in a rush, I've been able to do it in ~15-20 minutes without OS installation. But that's for a real simple build. (Onboard everything type stuff)
i can do it under a 1minute...but it wont work...GARUNTEED!!!
I could build one in like 10 minutes but when i take my time on cable management it takes like 2 or 3 days lol..

God, yes! Spent more time trying reroute cabling than building, installing the OS AND 120+ programs! Just when you get it right, something happens and you need to pull it out again (like removing some hardware).

Worst thing about computer building for me isn't if the rig can be built in under 30 minutes (it can if the case is new; if the older motherboard is taken out; wiring is moved away; the case cleaned and other odd jobs), it's the 1001 tiny cuts on the hands all these electronics offer (like the solder points behind the motherboard) and pushing and shoving building requires. Stings like 1001 salted wounds for a week, too. :swearing:
