Lol at people saying 70-80. For current gen Intel that is totally safe.
so for my 2500k .. i should start worrying if i hit 90 or close ?
iirc i get 50-57 on idle then 70-90 on load (that was when i was converting videos . 4 cores 100 load)

i still has stock cooler G(*&^%#^@%^@*

You guys serious? You get concerned at 70-80c? At summer ambients even the best of coolers will easily hit 70c under a few minutes of Prime with a decent overclock.

for everyday use, i try to keep cpu under 60
during stress tests i get it up to 83-84. but my computer rarely go over 60 even with 31c ambient room temp. yes i know. I live on top floor and i gets hot here

My CPU's TjMax is 100C. I like it below 60C, but and fine with it up to 70C (where it never gets). Getting into the mid and high 70s would make me intervene (back off). It generally loads ~50C-ish, plus or minus, for realistic loads. It goes slightly above 60C in Intel Burn test on warmer days.

My Northbridge is rated for 90C (80C for the X48 which is an X38 at 1600MHz, so let's say 80C). I don't like it much over 60C either. It actually runs warmer than my CPU. It never idles much below ~50C (down to the low 40C range on a very good day), but hardly goes over 60C, so... I ignore it.

I'll go with B. I know it would probably be fine at C, but I like staying below even A (and almost always do), so let's say B.

Mine doesn't (not in Intel Burn Test even).

In my answer, I'm talking about realistic loads according to my use. I say B, with C being the extra headroom, but I try and stay below it. Again, I'm usually below even A 99.999% of the time, so I'm not used to seeing those bigger, scary numbers, so maybe I'm more intimidated by them or something, even if I know they can take them. GPUs are fine to whatever they say, but it doesn't mean I feel like I want mine running up to ~85C in Crysis (which it can and does).

My 24/7 limit for my 2600k is 75C. It is totally fine to run a SB processor into the 80's though...

Doesn't it depend on which processor you have?! -_-

This poll is worthless, because you're going to have people from completely different Intel chipsets chiming in here.

SB chips can go into the 80's comfortably~ that doesn't really apply to everyone else though. So you're going to have opinions all over the place, and they'd all be right in their own categories.

Preferably Intel 1366 or 1355 socket based. I am gathering specs via sig rigs.

Wow thats a super smart idea! I was also a bit annoyed at the Intel datasheet that provided hundreds of Tmax but never explicitely for the cores

The 100C Tjmax from coretemp doesnt seem right though if Tmax package is 69.7C...
