How is the 750w Ultra X4?

1520 Views 32 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Phaedrus2129
I've heard the more expensive ones weren't very good, but how are the 850w and the 750w?

Looking for something modular to replace my current PSU.

http://www.amazon.com/X4-Series-750W...9627849&sr=8-5

And if there are any suggestions of another PSU, something around $150 is my range.

Then why not get the HX650W? That is, unless you are planning on going with a much more powerful graphics solution. But as it stands right now, even even the HX450W would handle your rig.

a 450 would handle his rig? doesn't seem like it, he has quite some stuff right now and i doubt a 450 could take that...

the hx750 would be a better choice than ultra, not completely modular, but its just the 24pin and the 8pin, you're going to have those anyway

I'm likely looking to get 3 Radeon HD 5770s in the future. Or perhaps even a 5970 if I can find one. Looking for something with a bit of room to expand my curent rig and entirely modular.

Yes, I am pretty damn sure the Corsair HX450W can handle his rig. This does not mean that I think that ANY 450W can handle his rig, though. I'm not dumb enough to think that.

We need to stop going by just the PSU's wattage rating.

Then how about the HX750W?

Kikaider: when you say "entirely modular", are you saying that you're tired of the non-modular design of the TX850W?

Yeah the HX series isn't *entirely* modular... But WHY in the WORLD would you ever need to disconnect the 24-pin or 4+4 pin connectors? And all the other cables are modular.

The HX750W is a great PSU. The Antec TruePower New Blue 750W is "modular", but 90% of the cables are hardwired and the handful that aren't are usually extraneous. So it isn't really modular.

I know, right?

I mean, what are the benefits of a 100% modular PSU?

To be honest, it was just some sort of facination of mine to want a "completely modular" design. Lets not ask about that strange need I have when I really don't mind.

Problem with both the Corsair HX 750/850 is the fact that they are out of my price range. I can get either the 750 Ultra X4 or the 1000 Ultra X3 for around $150.

But if there was one any better than that or one that was on sell, sure.
In a Cosmos, probably doesn't matter.
Smaller case, yes fully modular can make a difference.

I especially like the flex force cables on the X3 line.

Looking to buy a new case, likely the Silverstone FT01.

But what benefit is there of being able to unplug the 24-pin cable?

Don't recall ever mentioning the 24pin.

But the pic shows that even the 24-pin is modular.

Review of the X3 1000w.

Well for one, when I'm accessing the cables from the back panel I can pull the 24pin for easier access to the other cables.

Other than that, purely anal I think.

I've had great results with mine.

I'm likely going to just buy the X3 then. But I have a question, does Tigerdirect accept mail in checks?

the best thing i can see for needing a 24 pin modular is if you ware running the psu for something other them a mobo then you dona have to have it

ive seen a few dual psu pc's not many
but it would be nice

but ya if your gona make something modular might as well do it right lol and do everything
