The real difference is a 939 can run dual channel memory and 754 can't. It also seems that a 939 is a better overclock cpu.

On average the increase between 939 dual channel ram and 754 single channel ram is 6 percent increase. Also the 939 has a 90nm core rather than the 754 which is 130nm making the 939 run alittle bit cooler and better to O/C

Not much of a difference except what others have mentioned. And the fact that 939 is the current AMD socket, and the 754's are being phased out (unfortunately). I used to have a 754 system, loved it..

939 is more efficient. A 2.2 Ghz athlon 64 in 754 is the equivilent of 2.0 Ghz in 939. Also the hyper transport bus has been bumped up to 1Ghz. There is a new 90nm 3000+ vience for 754 which would probably be the overclocker for it, and there are also 130nm chips for 939 which you should watch out for (not get). The main advantage of duel channel memory is the ability to support up to 4 sticks of DDR 400, while single channle can only support 2 sticks of DDR400 or three sticks of DDR233.

I know it I had it to do all over again I would go with the 939 if for only the dual channel and for the future. If I could I would just sale my MB and cpu rightnow and buy a 939

Socket 754 has 90nm technology, and I can do this on stock cooling:

Both sockets can OC the about same depending on voltage and cooling. Like everyone else said 939 will always beat a s754 when it comes to memory intensive applications because it supports dual channel memory, I have heard about 4 or 5 % increase from single to dual channel.

939 = Opertons
754 = Mobile chips
