(not my sigrig)

Both CPUs are 2.8ghz.
Video card being used is a 512mb 4870. Primary game played would be Battlefield 3 multiplayer. I've looked up a few benchmarks, but all they test are the singleplayer campaign.. which is the worst representative comparison for the actual multiplayer. Resolution is 1600x900.

Would the Phenom II X4 820 along with a 512mb 4870 suffice for acceptable FPS in a 64p BF3 server on low settings?
And how much of a bottleneck would the 4870 be?

(overclockablity is not a factor at all since the motherboard is OEM and locked)

Thanks OCN

Processors with only 2 threads suffer in BF3 multiplayer, a stuttery mess. I have tested the game on an A6-3400M/6650M based laptop. This processor is similar to an athlon quad and can generally deal with up to 32p maps (mostly low settings-the gpu is 6570 class) when clocked at 2.0Ghz/720p. The phenom will be a massive upgrade on BF3 mp to the dual core but i have no clue on what to expect out of the 4870.

When I was running 2 4870s in crossfire I tried running just one card - 1GB mind you - and it was tough on 64 player maps. I had a Phenom X3 at the time. I would think with an X2 and 512MB 4870, you're going to be limited to 32 players. Phenom 2 would help out a lot, but the 4870 is still going to hold you back most of the time.
