I am not sure if this is a proper question for this section, but I really would appreciate some help on how power I should be getting.

This is my current unbought rig:

CPU: AMD PHENOM II X4 955 BE
GPU: MSI CYCLONE GTX 460
HDD: Samsung f3 1tb
CD/DVD: Just a normal cd/dvd burner

I do plan on upgrading... so:

I plan on getting a getting newer cards when they become worth getting =)

I will most likely never xfire or sli on this rig.

I will be overclocking, but nothing serious.

So opinions?

also, is modular worth the extra 20-40 bucks?

Thanks.

I would say 750w if you plan to do a bit of ocing and get a new card. 850w if you plan to really oc and get a powerful new card. About the modular psu, in my opinion modular is well worth $20-40. It's even worth $80 to me. It really helps improve flow in your case if you don't have a big spot to store all of the cables. Here are some psu's I would reccomend: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9016&Tpk=ax750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9015&Tpk=ax850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-087-_-Product

if he's never going SLI or CFX then 750W is way overkill for any single card out there. A quality 600W should be more than enough for any single card and overclocking.

You can run two of those graphics card and your entire system on a 550.

And Antec Truepower New 550w will give you all the headroom you will ever need and it's one of the best performing psu's you can buy. The newer Generation of Nvidia's should be a smaller dye so they should use about the same amount of power if not a a lot less per performance.

Don't break the bank on a psu, buy smart , if you get a good one like the one I suggested then it will perform as good if not better then the stupid expensive psu's he just posted.

That system will pull about 300w after overclocking everything.

In the middle I'd say. Not too little, not too much either - hit the sweet spot, but a tad higher on the safe side. As you said, you are willing on upgrading things in the future, including the card, so it never hurts to be ready for it.

The Corsair HX650 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139012 should do just the job

Well do some more research then come back so you can make an education choice. When you do you will see that WTHbot knows what he is talking about.

ICEBLADE WHERE ARE THOU?

OK, everybody seems to think 550w will be good...

Antec looks nice.

I am going to use the iceblade call: *pulls out large seashell* BOXXY IS AWESOME *waits...*

Ooh, I know WTH is right... I figured it would be low, but always need a second opinion.

Just look at this for more reassurance.

Go for the corsair
Both are very good brands no doubt, but packing more power and being modular definitely wins my vote.

The reason I say get a 750w-850w is because I like to play it safe and I don't like to have my psu maxed out all the time (so it lasts longer).

tops 650w (a good quality one). But you never know about upgrading, I said the same thing and ended up w/ trifire 4870. Now Im planning tri-sli gtx 470 and Im going to need a new psu when that happens. Just gotta resist the upgrade bug, it can hit you hard

Now this brings us into another debate, for $10 more I can have a xfx 750 silver modular psu...

I'll try to work this out by myself.

Thank you guys for helping me, really appreciate this forum.

Long Live OCN!
