I need to compress a file from 5.6GB to 3.6GB or less. It will either go on my USB key or a Single layer DVD.

You will have to use Orca to divide the file in half, and put part of the file on one disk and the other part of the file on another...
Either that or just use WinRAR to compress the file into parts, and put half of the parts on one flash drive, and the other half of the parts on another.

just rar it to fit it into two parts on a dvd-5 there is a option in winrar
What is on the ISO?

Depending on the kind of data, it could compress a lot, or not at all.

im not very 1337 with that you just said, but let me see if i hit the ball:
break the .iso up into 2 parts compress it seprately, then burn it onto ONE disk (becuase it's all i have left. lol)

if not, please explain how that would work.
Thanks.

Its Sims 3. she just needs to drag the ISO into her desktop, mount, and install. not install from the disk.

If we're talking text and document-type material, you might be able to do it. If it's programs or multimedia of some form, it would be almost impossible to achieve a compression ratio like that.

That's just about your only option. You won't be able to compress it 35%.

Yeah, you will have to break it into two parts. No modern game is going to compress that much.

ok, i got 2 DVD's. how do i split up these files? Thanks!
If it's an image, just burn it to a dual layer DVD.
You can put it on your USB Flash Drive if your USB Flash drive is big enough (8GB+) you can reformat it to NTFS and than drag and drop the file onto the Flash Drive.

Burn it on a DL disc would be a easy way if her drive supports DL reading. Other than than you can upload it somewhere for her.
