How to delete Vista off of Second Hard Drive?

936 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  [email protected]
So I had a Vista install on a hd but the OS is currupt and will not boot. I now use the drive as a storage drive and need the space from the windows install, along with program files, users, ect. When trying to simply right click and delete there is always a protected file. I forget how to take control of the file so I can delete it.

I am logged onto my current OS as administrator and changed security permissions for the files to full control but it didnt help. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Well, depending on how much storage data is on there, I recommend moving it to C:, and then formatting the drive with the corrupt installation on it. So, move the storage data to a safe place, format the drive, and then put it back.

I know that that would be the optimal solution but I'm afraid I don't have the space. It is a 1 TB drive and has about 800 GB on it. I'm looking to reclaim 13-15GB by removing the windows folders.

Boot into a linux live cd and delete the directory. Even if you don't know linux at all it is intuitive enough to where you can figure it out in a snap.

Try Puppy Linux. It is a small dl and should be able to help you out.

PM me if you need any more help. Let me know if it works.

Take care.
