Hello all, what i wanted to know is how do i disable 1 core per do module on my Asus crosshair v formula motherboard, i i have been reading around few foruns and i saw someone saying that a "special" bios is required. Where can i find that bios? the thing is i wanted to increase my single threaded performance on my amd fx 8150 cpu so that i can properly emulate wii console using Dolphin emulator, since it only uses 2 cores and relies on single threaded performance it slacks a bit on my cpu. could you help me plz?
best regards
I am pretty sure under the CPU Feature part there is an option for how many cores you want to run. I don't have your motherboard so I can't be positive, but just look around and it should be there somewhere. Every motherboard I have had has had the option to choose how many cores to run.

There is an option to disable/enable cores, but what i am looking for is to disable 1 core per module, not disable modules.
thanks for the reply anyway

Right now only AsRock has that option. You will not boost preformance by disable 1 core per module in any form.
I had an AsRock and tried it for the fun of it.

The CHV-Z definitely won't do that and I'm not 100% sure if my CHV does or not. However that's easy to do and I'll just pop in one of my FX chips to see.

I'll need to doublecheck and confirm it but I believe my Sabertooth R2.0 does - I seem to recall doing just that with it once before.

In LINUX there is a instruction that we can give in the Terminal that disables as many cores as you want....no need to reboot either , it starts to work right away....in fact, IIRC, cores will be re-enabled in next (re)boot.

Never used for AMD only for Intel but AFAIK, it should also work with AMD APUs/CPUs.

I used to use it in a PC running LINUX and using WINE to play CoD2....CoD2 under WINE have problems with videos and multi-core CPUs that would make it crash, solution was before launch CoD2, open a Terminal and issue the instruction to disable all cores minus 1 and then launch CoD2.

After play CoD2 i enabled again the disabled cores.

Had to post this up.

I did say I thought I'd seen it in the Sabertooth BIOS before and here it is. However I don't know exactly if it's something you can do at will or if it's a BIOS glitch making it happen.

Anyway, here's how it happened - I started out at stock settings with only 2 cores going. I loaded up an OC profile and booted with it - I then saw once the OS was loaded and I had opened CPU-Z that all 8 cores were going. Didn't want that so I rebooted, went into the BIOS to switch off the extra cores and this appeared.
Hmmm...

in this thread http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/10/22/amd_fx8350_piledriver_processor_ipc_overclocking/6#.U7qSTekg-cx

hes using a CVF-Z board and he says this

Quote:

Try disabling cores:

disable cores 1,3,5 and 7 for optimal performance (Cores 0,2,4 and 6 remain active => 4CU/4cores active)

disable cores 4,5,6 and 7 for optimal OC (Cores 0,1,2 and 3 remain active => 2CU/4cores active)

so it does look like at one time this could be done correctly?
