Under config, "Additional client parameters", add "-advmethods", without quotes.

PPD (On 9800GTX+ stock [740Mhz c])
384pt: 5409ppd
420pt: 5480ppd
353pt: 6300ppd

I'm getting a lot of these, and very few 511pt WUs. The client hasn't crashed with these new WUs, to my knowledge.

Ah. Good point. So when they release a new crappy WU, take the advmethods flag off.

My best PPD always goes in the order that the points per WU go, so for me:
353pt: 6300ppd
384pt: 5300ppd
420pt: 4800ppd
511pt: 4200ppd.

Are you sure you are using the 'last 3 frames' setting in FahMon?

i get around 6000 ppd (on the GTX) with the 353pt wu's and that is all I get unless I stop folding for a while (then I get 511's for a few days).

Wait wait wait... Hold on.

So if everyone starts doing these WUs and not 511s... Doesn't that mean that projects would be incomplete because nobody would be folding the 511s... Sorry I don't know very much about folding but shouldn't the goal be finding cures rather than getting the most points? Please excuse my narrow mindedness if I'm totally wrong.

Yeah, the ppd are seeing a huge difference.

Very valid point. Someone folding "for the cause" may argue that this is just for points. Keep in mind that you are helping the newer core. It was released for a reason. There are still many, many people folding the 511pt WU. Not to get into why I fold, I do it for the project, but I would like to get better WUs than the 511s, especially since they run so hot.

Is anyone having issues with their cards squealing with the new WU?

yes, on the 420s i get squealing but it seems to be throttling the card as it stops and starts...

Actually, Stanford controls the priority of the WUs from day to day. I would think they actually prefer that some of us use the advancedmethods tag, which is why it is in there. It does not stop you system from getting the regular WUs. If they wanted us all to only get 511 WUs, they could do that. The -advancedmethods tag lets your system get the newest type of WUs that have just come out of beta. In the end, you can do either. I find that the 420s runs cooler on my GX2s than the 511s. With an even mix of 353s and 511s, I get about the same as if you were getting all 420s.

They did do a small upgrade to client that runs the 420 WUs that fixed some of the stability issues that I had yesterday. Today, I came home from work without a single EUE. Yesterday, it was not as pretty after some of my systems started picking up the 420s.

Well, I did the -advmethods in my shortcut, not the settings and it is getting the 420's now. I have it on both my GSO's, 1 is getting 4000 ppd, 1 is getting 3500ppd? Both are WU 5900.
Temps are cooler with this one also.

The 420 WUs are very erratic in both GPU usage(start & stop) and also with the PPD that shows. I have seen them go as low as 3500, and as high as 9500. The one thing these 420 WUs are very good about is the GPU temp. My GPUs run ~10*C cooler with these than with any other WU.
420 FTW!

I don't know about anybody else with newer cards, but my 285 is getting upwards of 10k ppd average on the new 420s, which is as good or better than its performance with the 353s and a good bit better than the 384s. Perhaps these new cores are better able to take advantage of the new cards? something to consider.

Also these are really annoying because of the squealing. My card always squeals when folding but with the other WU's its a constant thing thats easy to ignore but with the 420 it starts and stops, very hard to tune out.
