Hi

My friend's having problems getting his PhysX card to work properly

He has a GTX260 as his primary GPU and is trying to use a 9800GT as his Dedicated PhysX card. Mobo is Gigabyte GA-H57M-USB3.

His 9800GT is detected and everything, and even if he selects it to use PhysX in the NVIDIA Control Panel, he doesn't get an FPS boost whatsoever

Are we missing something? Do we need a specific software to make that work, and not just set it to do the PhysX from the NVIDIA Control Panel software???

Thanks

I don't claim to be knowledgeable about PhysX but I was under the impression that PhysX does nothing to improve performance, it's just eyecandy.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Why would so many people use PhysX cards if it gives them 0FPS? be reasonable.

Use GPU-Z. In the botton there is a menu to change the video card you want to monitor.
Do it, and check if the card is being stressed when he plays games.

Memory controller and gpu load should show some activity (video engine shouldn't)

if both the mem and gpu laod stay at 0%, there is soemthing wrong... if they are being loaded, stop trying to fix what isn't broken

It goes around 50-60 percent during Mafia 2 Benchmark

Resolution is 1920x1080, everything maxed out
Avg. FPS is 23

The card is being used, as for the FPS difference, there might be an explanation for it... But I don't think it will change anything if you knew what's behind it. I mean, there woulnd't be a way to get more FPS

But if he reallywants to see it, I would recommend running the benchmark on lower resolutions

edit: btw... is he running an 980x?

that cpu is supposed to handle physX just fine for most situations

No. He's running a 860

I thought it was supposed to help? atleast 1 FPS difference?!

What's the point of doing this if it doesnt help AT ALL?

Go into the physX menu in NVCP and set PhysX to run on CPU ... then run the bench at the same settings and jot down the result.

Then do the same thing, only using the 260 as the physX card.

Then do the same thing, using the 9800GT as the PhysX card.

Post the results of all three tests here. Use screen capture from FRAPS if regular method of screen grab doesn't work.
