If you want them to operate on their own, no need to connect to mobo. If you want to adjust fan speed, connect them.

I just bought 2 83cfm fans for my cheapo case.(the stock fan was silent and weak)
The new fans came with a fan speed controller. The wires say Mobo, fan, and the other one is a power to the psu. Do I need to connect them to the mobo if I dont want them auto controlled? I put one in the rear of the case and one in the front. On high cpu stays 2-3 degrees C cooler on Prime.
