How well will 9800GTX+ in 3-way SLI scale?

I know they used to scale terribly when you added the third card (only like 10% gain) but now with newer drivers has anything changed?

Thanks

Maybe a slight increas but G92 is a very mature core aso i wouldnt think much more performance increase. MOre driver attension would have been done on GT200B

maybe 15% perforamcen increaes?
No numbers to back this up, but IIRC the 9800GTX's are some of the best scaling NV cards to date.
I can tell u that it should scale well. I played with vista a few weeks ago and went from staying at 89 to 92FPS in COD [email protected] with 2 cards. To staying above 110FPS and up to 120 to 125.

And this is at 1920X1080 And it on HIGH + 4x aa.
I searched this issue and its a interesting problem. I have found no real updates on how much better the 9800 GTX 3 way SLI performs. Attention on 3 way SLI seemed to have moved on the the 2XX chips..,

This. The G92 series of chips (the G92bs were even better) were and are the best SLI scalers that nVidia has ever made thus far. This includes 8800GT, 8800GTS (512MB), 9800GTX, and for the G92b, 9800GTX+, GTS 250, and GTS 240. For the mid-range spectrum, the 9600GSO is also a G92 chip, but doesn't support 3-way SLI. After a 75-90% gain from 2-way SLI (on your 9800GTX+s), after adding a third card I'd say you can expect another 35-40%. Also, CPU overhead plays a role here. The more your CPU can handle three cards in SLI, the more performance you'll get out of them.

thats actually better than ive found most people see from 3.... how do u so on crysis? because if it realy is a decent improvement im ganna nab a 3rd one. But would a PNY 9800gtx+ be fine with my 2 evga's (bestbuy has pny's for 109$)

Yep! It doesn't matter what company makes them, as long as they're the same chip (for example, I SLI with a Sparkle and PNY GTS 250). Hell, you could even get a GTS 250 and SLI your two 9800GTX+s with that; since they're the same chip.

Could i SLI my 8800GTS G92 with a 250 or a 9800gtx+ ?

Does that work sine they are B or no ?

no u cannot with the 8800GTS

9800GTX+ and the 250 GTS is the same chip repackaged so thats why you can

The GTS 250 is a PCB-shrink and power-efficient redesign. It's a decent-enough different from the 9800GTX+, but still can SLI with each other.

If you look at for sale, and video card section you might be able to find a used 8800GTS for a tri-SLI.

Those things sell like pancakes tho lol
Depends on the game.

Three Way 9800GTX+ and a 4,0GHz i7 will definitively scale mor ethan 15%.

The 9800GTX+ is also a bit longer... You urself said they were the same on a earlier post
but yes you are correct they arn't

One difference from the 9800GTX and the 9800GTX+ is that the fabrication process used on the latter is the 55nm instead of the 65nm. I believe thats one of the reasons why the 9800GTX+ can be SLI'd with the 250GTS

Correct. And for the record, I said they were the same chip -- not the same card
.

So has anyone tried to see the difference in performance between sli and trisli on games like crysis. Last time i saw it was only like 4fps gain so i decided not to do it. But if some see more gain im definately going to get a 3rd.

I thought you had to have a 9 series GTX or higher to Tri-Sli ?

I can Tri-SLi my G92s ?

What mobo would you recommend jumping to ? Gonna be staying with the Q6600 for now, maybe change up the ram, but i dunno.

I can't see the G92's being TOO different, but I know my 3 cards scaled very well. I can't see why yours wouldn't too.
