Trying to upgrade this to Windows 7 but I can't for the life of me get it to boot from disk???

Anyone have any ideas/experience with this laptop?

have you tried going into the bios and changing the boot priority sequence?
From what I can tell, you have to press {Escape} while booting and choose your drive. If that doesn't work, maybe your DVD is bad.
C'mon, give me more credit then that.. of course I have
Are you trying to boot from an original Win7 disk, or a disk you burned yourself? If the latter, you *could* be facing a drive/disk compatibility issue. Do you have an external USB drive you could try? Old IDE DVD drive with USB-IDE adapter would work...
It's an original disk that works fine in my other laptop and my PC ( I just checked ) And it won't boot from my external DVD driver either

Did you try selecting the boot device by pressing {Escape} at boot rather than setting it in the BIOS? Also, its possible that the message to "Press any key to boot from the disk..." isn't being displayed for some reason and you just have to do it anyways?
I've set it to enable booting from disk and nothing, pressing ESC does nothing either??

Could it be that it's an OEM machine?

I really don't think that being OEM should disable booting from alternate devices. If you have a large enough flash drive, you could try to write your ISO to that and boot it.

isnt bootable device menu either f1, f2 or f11? for some reason those options stick out.
I used to have a DV9000 any chance your dvd rom is busted and doesn't read DVDs anymore?

I know hp will allow you to install windows 7 on its laptops, installed 7 on my sisters HP DV9000 (same as I had) and my Girlfriends DV6000. not in front of either, so I cant tell you what the boot option is right this second.
Sorted guys

Just done the first quater of windows 7 with the same HDD in another laptop, thrn completed the install on the proper laptop then

hahah, crafty! good luck, you should do some research, I know a lot of machines actually have a boot selection screen, so instead of going into the bios you can select the correct boot device from a list before windows loads...

I cant for the life of me remember the key though, sorry!
The manual says that <ESC> is the key to interrupt & specify boot menu. Kind of weird. Really.

But you have to press <ESC> early on - it should display that option on the lower-left side of the screen. If it doesn't, you might have to disable quiet-boot (or the HP equivalent) in BIOS so you can see it.

Maybe try constantly pressing <ESC> and <spacebar> once you turn on the machine? <ESC> to try and change boot order, <spacebar> to boot into CD, if for some reason it *is* giving you the option but not giving you enough time to react to it.....

Other than that, I'm at a loss...

Well, maybe try duping the OEM disk to another DVD disk and see if you can boot that...
