No usually Hyperthreading dosent do much for games because the applications have to be programmed specifically to take advantage of hyperthreading. That said you could use HT in a general sense to multitask while playing a game, like have stuff open while Doom3 is running and be able to Alt-Tab between them, but (disclaimer time) AS FAR AS I KNOW games arent programmed to take advantage of HT so it dosent help.

HT is made so that no one process can fully utilize all processing power from the CPU, so the answer is that it can be bad for the more demanding games.

The good news is that with all HT processors you can disable the HT in the BIOS. With you HT disabled on the 3.0 processor you can play like a AMD 3.0Ghz would play(if there were any, not considering the technologies that AMD does not share with intel).
