Well, I found out last weekend what my highest possible overclock is on my 3700, 2.95 with 1.65 vcore. Specs to follow:
2-2-2-5 Timings, I can do CAS 1.5, but apparently there's a performance hit associated with 1.5?
Vcore 1.65, Vdimm 3.5, Vchipset 1.6, LDT 1.2.

I'm able to do 3.0 ghz, 300*10, but it's not stable. I started to bump up the vcore, and in OCCT, I noticed that as vcore increased, the test failed closer to finishing, so I concluded that as I juiced it up more, stability did increase, but I was running 1.75 vcore before I backed off at 295*10 at 1.65 vcore, where I'm comfortable. Is there another route I should take besides trying to juice it up, or is this the limit of the chip?

Loosen those timings for higher O/C I can reach DDR600 levels with my tccd on 2.8v and 3,4,4,8 1t remember to lower the LDT x3 recommended also I can go higher than DDR600 if I change my 1t to 2t and use a divider...

Still a nice O/C though for those tight of timings....

I'm certain that it's my CPU because my RAM will run up to 260 mhz at 1.5-2-2-5, and I'm on a divider which slows it down to 245.

I dunno what the problem is, but I hit 3 GHz pretty easily with my 3700. I set vcore to 1.6, ran a huge RAM divider (because I have cheap RAM), and had CPU at like 273 x 11.

I dunno, there are different steppings that might overclock better than others, yours was a good one probably.

2.95 is hardly a poor stepping. but that is so close to 3.0 it must be possible somehow. i cant get mine to 2.7 stable so i dont really have any pointers but good luck.

Okay, I'm gonna have a lot of time tonight to fiddle with settings. I'm going to find the max HTT that my motherboard is able to handle, and I'll report back.

Give it more vcore.....I wonder if you can get a superpi 1M run in, that would be cool...

Max HTT is 380...

Anyway, couldn't do it, no matter what combination I tried. Tomorrow, I'm going to try 328*9 with a 166 divider in an attempt to bring my RAM up to its max speed.

why you using the x9 multi? Keep it with 11 or 10, not worth the 9. It's too bad it wont go any higher, I bet it could if you had cooler temps on the chip you could have a little room to play.

If you were entered into a blind study, I guarantee you wouldn't see any difference with 100 mhz.

What are you idle and full load temps? You may need better cooling to break the 3.0ghz mark. If you're on air, a 1.65Vcore, may be pushing your temps a little high. I'm surprised noone has pointed this out yet...

I was talking about your comment when you said it's too bad he couldn't get to 3 ghz yet. I'm just saying that you wouldn't notice any difference in performance, that's all. To be honest, I've used my system on stock settings before and didn't even realize it until I opened PCWizard up. I know I've done it at least twice.

He means that if you were to use two systems, where the only difference was one cpu was clocked 100mhz, you wouldn't be able to tell any difference (w/o using benchmarking programs of course).

well, he's trying really hard to get 3.0 stable and I'm trying to give advice, theres not much I can do because I'm sure burn knows his stuff. Voltage is king unless that's the chips limit.
