I can't get multi GPU folding to start! >:(

So I just got my GTX280 and installed it. Its folding just fine.

But I also got my old 8800GTS that I want to keep folding with so I followed multiple guides to get this baby folding but no avail. Once it starts is says "Attempting to get work packets" (or something along those lines) the it says "Connections closed" next is "Folding (0/0)" and then "Attempting to send work packets" and the whole thing starts over again.

Yes I have 2 monitors and yes I have 1 in each GPU.

TBH I wouldn't mix cards like that it will kill the PPD of your better card. So unless you are using it as a physX card I say sell it and get another 280.

If you want to pay for it be my guest! I'm flat broke.

And yes I'm using it for a physx card and yes I want to fold on it... it still does a nice 4~5k PPD.

Wish I could!
It would be 295's for all OCN folder.

Seriuosly though I don't think you can mix series like that, for folding.

You can mix them, it will just slow down you new card to the same speed as the older one. I wanted to do that with my 8800gtx and my gtx295!

It's been posted several times, you can't run cards of different processing cores...

It WILL drop (about 1/2) your PPD, it IS NOT worth it...

Just fold on the 280 and be happy...

I don't have the site bookmarked here at work but you can do a search...

Unless there has been a drastic change with new drivers you can't mix processing cores...

Good luck and Fold on...

I don't loose any PPD from mixing my cards. Hold on I will get you a link to the download for the multi-gpu client. its already configured to work all you have to do is change the usernames to yours....You have to use the 180.60 drivers...or thats what I use and it works great!

Here it is..download that link at the bottom and unrar it then fire it up and change the username to yours! http://www.sendspace.com/file/n3ywo1

Ive been trying that all day! and all I get is "Sorry, the free service is at full capacity."

And I'm using the new 182 drivers.

Hey DIRTYDUCK. I assume you are trying to get her the link for nafljhy's dual GPU setup, correct? My copy works wonders

Here it is on OCN - http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...2-without.html

Zippit, just get the dual GPU file and follow the directions in the thread. It doesn't get any easier than that

yeah sorry I didnt know there was an updated thread for this...nafljhy helped me for a few hours one night and at then end of it he just uploaded that .rar and it worked right away! Could not have been made any easier. However I think you will need the 180.60 drivers....I have not read the thread yet...maybe the drivers don't matter as much as I think.

Look at this thread. I know that they would not be in SLI as you cannot fold with SLI enabled.

Well I can't even get it to work and my 8800GTS will be folding 24/7 and my GTX280 will not since I'm gaming or photoshoping with it. So even in theory my GTX280 won't bottleneck or slow it down.

And with the downloaded package it also doesn't work. >

I got this working with the 180.48 drivers. I have since moved up to the 182.06 drivers.

Zippit, there is no way this doesn't work for at least 1 card. Just extract the folder and double-click the .exe file.
I know you have 2 monitors, but are they both enabled in Windows AND the Nvidia Control Panel?

This is the guide i followed.

You do have to make sure that the desktop is extended on the second monitor!

Good luck

Only the GTX280 worked... the 8800GTS did nothing.

And yes I have both screens. My main (32") is on the GTX280 and my 2nd(19") is on the 8800GTS, and yes my desktop is extended.

Like Tufelhunden said before, I don't think you can fix different series cards. Not for folding at least.
The 8800 and 9800 are basically the same card, but the GTX series uses a different processing core.
