I wish i could just buy an X6800 and say NO to the OC'ing malarky, but alas i'm a poor boy (heh i'm 31) and shave my leg hair for food.
Just been testing some overclocks again and managed 2.8Ghz again, although this time it's been tested with 1032 Beta Bios. Stable with windows, FEAR, Super PI 2M test....but not 3DMark05! Arrrrgh!

What is it with 3DMark05 (aint downloaded 06 yet mind)? The voltage on this chip is 1.550v

Besides Dood, your FEAR score rocks, rolls, rumbles and shatters! I like FEAR

Well i would consider 2.8Ghz stable if it weren't for 3DMark, the highest i have managed to log into XP is 2.85Ghz

I gotta say that if it isn't at least 3D Mark '05 stable then it really isn't stable.

Try Prime95 for at least 8 hours (overnight is best time) and see how high you can get it stable there. Then move on to your more graphics intense tests like the 3D Mark's and start oc'ing your video card if possible. Try and narrow it down from your CPU/RAM to your video card.

Well, it runs 3DMark but at any particular time during the test it will freeze and i have to reboot. The other day i thought i cracked it, and it froze on the last test. I wasn't impressed to say the least....heh

As for the GPU, i doubt i could take it any higher without issues.

Well, that was interesting. I lowered my GPU overclock to what it was a while back @ 550/1520 and 3DMark was successfull at 2.8Ghz

I think you should download Prime95 to test for stability. Do you know the stepping of your CPU, by any chance? Also, I would get ATITool (Or the Nvidia equivalent) and test for stability using the artifact test.

Here is the ATI Tool for Nvidia cards if you would like to use it:
ATITool 0.25 Beta 14

Every time my pc has shut down when the Gfx card was working hard it was because of the PSU. Are you sure your power supply is alright?

It's 600Watts man! Anyway finally stable @ 2.8Ghz with 560/1600 on the GPU without a hitch. Turned out i had to up my CPU voltage to 1.55v

I had a 600 watt thermaltake that would shut off when under full load with 2 gfx cards. Its not so much the wattage its the stability of your 12v rail(s).

The fight is never over in overclocking...you must fight to become stronger
!

For best Prime results, run two instances at once. Ensures full load. Also, you may want to run memtest86 to make sure the mem aint the problem: http://www.memtest86.com/
Good luck! And never quit!! I just blew up my old PSU, so I just ordered a Silencer 750; OC'ing leads to better upgrades
