the computer booted up, no problems and i didn't even reformat my harddrive and do a fresh install of windows...

should i still do a fresh install or just be glad that everything works?

Be glad everything works. With Windows XP, you shouldn't have any issues with doing such a swap. Nice upgrade though! If you're interested in selling your old components, I think i have a client that would be interested. PM Me.

OK...for some reason...last night, temps were at 34 degrees at idle...this morning i decided to unrar a game and saw the temps reach up to 67 degrees. wht the hell?!

i'm using a thermaltake venus w/ AS5 for cooling...isn't this sufficient?

Sometimes Windows XP will port to a new system without too much complaining, other times you'll get a BSOD and have to wipe it and start over. It ultimately depends on the hardware differences.

Or you can just choose repair from the Windows Setup Disk and everythin will be solved

Did you apply a to much AS5? About the size of an uncooked grain of rice is all you need.

If both MB's have the NF4-U chipset, you will be fine with switching the components out.
I would install the chipset drivers anyway.
If you can uninstall the old chipset drivers, I would do this also.
I just did about the same thing, and I haven't had any serious problems.

well, on the venice i had, i actually spread it out on the processor and it had temps down to around 34 degrees. i tried the "uncooked grain of rice" application last night and now i see the temps are crazy.

Perhaps the HSF isn't seating correctly.

i'm thinking that...b/c Thermaltake's site says that this HSF is made for the opty. i just wanted to confirm that it's a user error and not that this HSF can't take it.
