I might Upgrade to a 4870 if...

..my Cooler Master 550W can suport it. I know the 4870 needs 2X 6pin connectors from the PSU, mine currently only has 1. Would it work the current one + that Molex > 6pin adapter?

I assume so about the wattage,
the molex to 6pin works for sure.

I have a 500W and on full load, my whole rig only pulls around 380W. So you will be fine.
