Os?
Do you have the most recent bios for your motherboard?
Do you have the most recent drivers installed for your motherboard?

Your computer profile doesn't state which mobo you have.
Also download and check your mobo manual, on 3 of my board I can turn cores off in bios but its specific to each board.
well its an hp workstation xw6400
Can you please be a bit more informative? What do you mean when you say "my computer only seeing one of them but if i go to device management i see all 4"? That doesn't make any sense. Do you mean the BIOS only sees one CPU? Or if you right-click/properties on My Computer, it only sees one CPU? What? If device manager sees all 4 cores, then what's the problem exactly?
If you installed your OS on a dual-core cpu then upgraded, you will have to reinstall the OS for Windows to know it needs to install a different HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). If it was installed on a dual-core, it won't know how to address the quad.

Wow, I had no idea it worked like that--very interesting. There's no way for a simple "update" in cases like that?

He says that hardware manager shows all 4 cores (from what I can interpret).

I wonder how many threads taskmanager shows. OP, open up taskmanager and look at how many CPUs it shows in the Performance tab. Are all active if you load up something like a benchmark or app that can use all of them? If it's showing 4 there, and 4 CPU's in device manager, then I wouldn't think there's a problem.
