Hi ladies and gents I am looking for some peripherals that I am going to be getting soon. I am going to be buying the peripherals on this site:

http://msy.com.au/index.jsp

I'll be picking up these peripherals in a week or so.

Here is what I need:

Disc's (Burn Games too).

I need a few big USB's for school work (16GB +), and putting movies on.

A external HDD for backup's and putting anything else on, such as games, MORE MOVIES !!

It probably seems stupid asking but I wasn't sure which type of disc's, USB's or External HDD to get.

I wasn't sure where to post this thread.. so sorry if it's in the wrong place.

i personally dont like using flash drives for carrying around lots of data so i use a small portable 2.5inch hdd

on that site thiere are a few to choose from $50 and up with about 500gig storage

they fit in your pocket or bag with no problem and thiere is less chance off losing them

i have hade flash drives in the past but after losing a few i decided to try a portable hard drive havent looked back since still havent lost the harddrive and its got plenty off space unlike most flashdrives that can quickly fill up especially if your putting movies on them

plus you only need to buy 1 harddrive instead off severale flash drives

Depending on how many movies you're going to download onto you external hdd, I would advice getting a 1TB? You'll have a huge amount of space for a lot of movies.

Also do you have a disk drive on your rig? External ones are relatively cheap these days.

  • For your movies and back up I found this.
  • For your school work either this (won't need a couple as it's double the space of 16GB or this.
  • For a disk drive this.
I personally think you should use flash drives for you're school work as it's smaller and easier to carry? Although you could use a 500GB HDD although it's quite pricey compared to external HDD's.

Thank you a lot mate, repped.. i'll go pick up those sometime this week.

what I meant about the disks is actual disks (the ones that come in the stack... 250 or so), not the DVD drive. But i'll pickup the DVD-Drive anyway.

Will I be able to play my movies straight off my external HDD? plug in the cord to the dvd-player and just browse through and load up the movie and watch it? thats what I plan to do, have stacks of movies and just watch them any time on my external HDD without taking up the space on my PC (Internal HDD).

Oh right ha, my bad. Yeah you should be able to pick some DVD/CD's from you're local store? Pretty much with the external HDD plugged into your system you should be able to access the folder with all your movies on and just double click and watch away! Also the disk drive I linked will play DVD's as well, not blu-rays. If you want a blu-ray one you could search on the website, will be more expensive mind.
If you have a disk drive in your system then do you need an external one?

External HDD's are good for that. For my new system though I picked up a 1TB internal HDD for all the games and programs not needed on my SSD.

EDIT: If you're planning to burn games to disk. I would suggest using Blu-Rays as they store a lot more data on them. I just found DVD disks on the website and they only hold 4.7GB. Blu-Rays hold 25GB. However they're more expensive and come in small packs.

I'd just suggest sorting games on your external HDD? Will you be burning them to disk for friends?

Yes I will be burning some games to a disk, so I'll be needing a Blue Ray External DVD-Drive and some Blue-Ray Disks.

Okay then this is the cheapest external Blu-ray player I found.

These will be the disks you want, however you could find them at your local store or electronics store might have more in a packet. They do have more in a packet on the website but there's no image - They are here if you are interested, you get an extra 15 disks.

I didn't realise external blue ray DVD players where so expensive but I'll probably get it, if not I'll ask my uncle if he has one, he works with PCs so he'll probably have one I'll also pickup the disks, thanks for all the help any other recommendations?

I can still run disks, games etc etc... on the external blue ray DVD player that are not blue ray correct?

Yes, with the blu-ray player I linked it can read DVDs and CDs as well as Blu-Rays.
