I propose an end to removing civil and reasoned opposing views on Suggestions Board.

Too bad objections aren't permitted here, but if I have my way that will change.

As it concerns the Purpose of Suggestions section which reads as follows.

"Lately there have been too many instances of arguing in the Suggestion forum. The purpose of this forum is for the staff to hear ideas about potential add-ons or new features that might benefit the site. It was not intended to be a place for members to debate the merits of someone's suggestion. If someone makes a suggestion and you as a member with your own opinion feel like you have something positive to add, please do so. If you simply think the idea is terrible, that isn't helpful to anyone and should be kept to yourself. We don't make a habit of implementing terrible ideas so there is no reason to get worked up. If we do implement a feature that you don't think was great then please do let us know why you feel that way."

I propose that civil and reasoned objection to ideas be permitted on suggestion threads. I believe that contributing calm and rationale objections to ideas would not just help avoid the implementation of bad ideas, but also aid in a smoother transition to the implementation of new ideas that are adopted by OCN.

I believe that while OCN is a great site, I think the adoption of this "Purpose of Suggestions" in it's present form is it's own proof that there are pitfalls to removing the chance for legitimate objection to ideas.

OCN is run by people and people are fallible. People are also tied to the quirks of human psychology, the most relevant to this topic is the phenomena known as "Group Think". If those who run OCN see only support for an idea, they are going to think less critically about that idea. They will judge that idea in the light that it is presented to them and right now that light is tainted in false purity.

To fix this I propose that an objection that is stated in a civil manner with a concrete and rationale explanation of the objection be legitimate expression within the Suggestions Board and not be removed.

Debate may still be prohibited if OCN wishes. Opinions for or against can be stand alone statements and need not be debated, but they should be heard.

I tried this argument on BFRD in that very thread. Didn't work.

Good luck, I'm 100% behind you on this one.
Please read Chipp's post: http://www.overclock.net/7214798-post24.html

Remember that you can have a positive, but dissenting post.

That said, I do agree that BFRD's original post does make it sound like you should never disagree with anything in the suggestions forum, and should be updated to clarify.

Well I hope this happens because I had a post deleted that I'm almost certain should not have been. People seem to be sort of abusing the the "Purpose of Suggestions" concept as a way to get rid of posts critical of their suggestion.

...and they seem to be able to do so too easily.
