I think I killed it - Asus 4870X2

Yep, got it, ran it one night, thought the fans were running too much considering temps stayed in the 40's, and liked the fan profile I had on my existing 4870s, anyway... Here's the kicker, I booted off usb drive like I did before and flashed the gpu's, but my dumb butt did it using the rom files used on my 512MB 4870's, so it immediately bricked the SOB. I still have one of my modded 4870's, so I installed it, and put the x2 in the lower pcie slot in my x48 board and booted off usb drive. atiflash -ai gives me information on all "3" cards, and I got the correct "Asus TOP" bioses for the x2 and flashed them using -p and -f switches on GPU 1 and 2 (X2 gpu's) and remove the 4870, move the x2 to the top pcie slot and boot up, no post, it's like that card is dead as a doornail. Any suggestions? =\\ I knew the time would come when I would get myself in trouble for not paying attention...

Eh I feel for you

I mistakenly flashed the slave bios to my master and bricked my X2. Tried for 3 days to fix it, ended up rma'ing it.

EDIT> You do have the DFI bios that properly supports the X2, correct?
man if reflashing the card in windows might help..i had the same experience with 4850x2's and i was able to rescue the card..i used atiwinflash..
Man, ppl really just need to leave their bios' alone. Anyway, sorry to hear. R.I.P.

I was scared to overclock my $130 processor. You guys are tinkering with $500 video cards. I hope I never become that...wild.
The gains on overclocking an x2 with standard cooling are limited to begin with. I played briefly with an Asus TOP version and the card ran way too hot (which led me to buy the tri-fan version).

Fixed that for ya

Not worth it unless it is still covered under warranty when you mess with the bios. Which i assume it isn't. Just overclock to the point it supports without modifying the bios. You won't get much more of a gain out of it after that anyway. Not worth it at all.

It might not seem worth it to some people, but some need to be on the bleeding edge.

I did it myself when I flashed my x800 pro to an x800xt. I spent a good 3-4 hours reading, and re-reading the procedure, knowing it inside and out. Bricking a high end graphics card is the worst feeling ever.

As for RMA, chances are they wont accept it, because you tampered with the bios. Unless you say you were updating the bios for the card, then they might take it back..

Hope you get it working again man, thats one expensive card

I remember one time I was flashing my Geforce 4400Ti using the manufactures software. As it was in the middle of updating the program it froze. I was like ************. I didn't want to restart my computer. It was bricked.
send it here I'll get it working for you.

Typical... LOL. Ghetto ass people not wanting to truly help another person, just themselves! =) Fortunately I still have one of my bios modded 4870's to run until I get the x2 up and running again (if piece of ish Asus fixes it).
