Hi

I bought the 6600k and it doesnt come with a cooler so I bought the hyper evo 212 because it was cheap. But I am not really looking to overclock my CPU, atleast not right now, will the evo still be a good fit? I don't want my CPU to freeze too much.

I don't necessarily live in the most warm place, even though I'm lucky summer is coming.

Second question is, kinda related to above, I already have an evo from previous build, but missing a couple of screws hence I bought a new one, but I should be able to use the fan and run a double fan setup right? And if so, I should only do that if I want to overclock?

Thanks.

You could have find screw replacement for your first cooler. I got multiple times extra parts just by mailing of calling the company. You can use any fan on a cooler as long as it has the right diameter. Having two fans is not going to make much difference. Fans are quite good at pushing, not so much for pulling air.

Thanks, it's not crucial parts that's missing it's more of a pain to install is all. The other cooler is not that important, I'm more concerned if I went too far purchasing a stronger cooler than needed because I do not intend on overclocking anytime soon.

The real question is more like why did you buy a CPU ment to be overclocked if you don't overclock it? You better have a better cooler the day you will overclock that CPU because you have to! The Evo 212 is far from overkill... there are way better cooler out there. If you don't want to overclock at all... I would consider buying the non-k model the next time, you will save some buck for something else.

On a stock 6600K, changing the cooler would net very little difference regardless of what cooler you go to. You can change it for a different look, sound profile, etc, but at stock clocks you would only see a couple of degrees difference at most.

Indeed, stock any cooler will do, but some will be much quieter when CPU is working hard..

If you are interested in how airflow and cooling works, you might find "Ways to Better Cooling" link in my sig helpful. 1st post is index, click on topic to see it. 5th post is a good place to start.

Edit:
Using a 2nd fan on 212 automatically added 3dB to the cooler's noise level.

Maybe a little less because 2x fans make more pressure, so can spin a little slower and still move about same amount of air.

Just FYI,
This is considered blasphemy on OCN.

There is no such thing as "too cold of a processor" until you cold bug it, which happens at faaar, far below any ambient temp (unless you're in outer space).
Strap both fans on the 212 and enjoy it.
