Hey there

I'm all new in this forum and wanted to ask you a question about how much you think I could get out of my i5 760. I was thinking about 3.4GHz - 3.6GHz for everyday use but what do you guys say?

Here is my setup: (aditional information is written in my system in the signature)

Mobo: Asus P7P55D
CPU: Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.8GHz
RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS3 (4x2GB)
CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 13

I have tried to OC the CPU to 3.66GHz now .. Been reading temps and stresstesting with Prime95 64bit for half an hour - one core peaked at 65 degress but most of the time they all lays around 62-64 while stresstesting - so would this be good?

I'm running with 192x19,0 - should I rather lower my bus and raise the multiplier instead?

Hoping for a little advise and feedback.

Thanks guys

Right now the voltage it 1.2480 - and I lowered the bus to 180, and raised my multiplier to 20.0 instead. - that lowered my temperatures to a peak of 63c instead.

Am I way of or is it ok?

So .. when you say proper voltages - what would that be in this case?

Ok - Here is the fast temp reading.

I ran the Prime95 - waited 10min before taking screenshot.

Where I'm at its 16:45 right now - and the sun is basicly just warming up the rooom right now.

Idle temps:

Load temps with Prime 95:

After the screen shot the peak is 75 degress on one core - but the usually lay around 70-73.

I didnt seem to get a lover voltage - is this way too much though?

What cooling are you using?

FreakaZoidDK - For me 10 minutes in Prime is more than enough. I assume that You'll probably mostly play games. Am I right? Byt the way temps looks really good, so You can safely stay at this settings right now

Robilar is using WC cooling - Corsair H70. You can see it at his System Sig.

Sounds great - but when I lowered the bus, and raised the multiplier, it seemed to drop in temperature instead - maybe I should go with 185 in bus and 22 in multiplier? so it would be something like 4GHz either way?

I have heard something about staying below 180 on pure air clocking for the sake of the chipset?

Yes, when You'll lower Your bus and get a higher multiplier You'll get better temps, but I don't see any reason of doing that. If it's stable at those setting You should stick with it. Or maybe You need higher OC, but I doubt it will get You something. i5 and i7 at 3.6GHz is more than enough for me, not to mention about 4GHz

It's something like this.... Lowering your bus and rising multiplier You'll be able to lower your voltages to run CPU with the same speed as higher bus and less multiplier. I don't know if I'm clear

You are getting throug to me lol

.. It made alot of sense.

But you final words would be that you think I'm clear, ready for action with my all new - and first -4GHz clock? You don't think that my chipset would be at any harm?

And to answer you question: Yes - I might mostly play - but I also just want to push my stuff you know - its the thing about the "bragging" about you have clocked it this and that.

Yup. Just use it for everyday use and be happy

If You have max of 73 degree with that OC and voltages You don't need more

You'll need only three things to run CPU, which are - Stable OC, proper voltages and temps - and You're good to go ;]

Edit: And remember that Prime and any other bench tests are using 100% of every core. Games will mostly using about 20-30 % of all 4 cores, so Your temps should be less than 65 degrees.

Great mate .. great .. thanks for help and advise

..

Another question though .. Is there a "rule" for how much voltage you may give your CPU? just a rule of thumb or something?
