Hello there,
Im building and OCing a computer for a friend and im having some difficulties. I'm unstable at the settings below, any tips on getting a better OC? I'm using an I5 on a GA-P55-UD4P.
temps are 73 full load 42 idle
Bios settings:
Advanced Freq Settings
Turboboost: disabled
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E): Disabled
CPU EIST: Disabled
CPU mult: 20x
QPI mult: x32
BCLK freq: 190Mhz
XMP: disabled
mem mult: 6x (making sure mem doesnt affect initial CPU OC)
CPU clock drive: 700mV
PCIe clock drive: 700 mV
Advanced Mem Settings
Performance Enhance: standard
Advanced Voltage Settings
Load-Line Calibration: Enabled
CPU: 1.28 (had to bump to get it to boot into OS)
Thanks,
EFR
edit: I've noticed that my Core 0 is always the one to fail first (by far) and its normally about 4 degrees hotter than the other cores, did i just get an unlucky I5 or is there more to it?
very helpful post, but I don't think I can get any more Vcore, at 1.29 the core temp on Core 0 was at a high of 76 deg., Don't want to get it any hotter than that since its not my computer. What do you think?
I'll play around with the mult. a bit more, mine seems to like 19x the best, but ill give 20x and 21x another go.

If you are scared of higher temps, then it sounds like you're about as far as you'll get.
With a good board like that one, unless VTT is too low, vcore & temps are mainly what holds these chips back.
alrighty. maybe i'll take the HSF off tomorrow and reapply the TIM if im feeling up to it, rushed it a little bit the first time i did it.
+rep and thanks for the good info
edit: i bumped my VTT and increased my OC a little and my temps actually improved, great tip!
