Hey guys looking into purchasing a new CPU, I was wondering how much one would expect to pay for a new Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz LGA 1155 Processor and/or how much a used one would be worth? Also, I assume there is only one version of the i7 3770K correct? Thanks

The typical online price for a new, retail-boxed i7-3770K is $320. If you live within driving distance of a Microcenter, they're selling them in-store for $230.

There's only one version of the i7-3770K, but there's also an i7-3770 (without the "K" at the end). The main difference is that the non-K can't be overclocked, but is about $30 cheaper.

Seeing that you're looking to switch over from the AMD side, be advised that you'll need either a Z75 or Z77 chipset motherboard in order to overclock, in conjunction with a K-suffixed CPU.

It's a loss leader and yeah, it's an attractive price that is hard to argue with

A "loss leader" is a term referring to an item stores sell at a loss in order to attract customers to shop there, in hopes they'll buy other, more profitable items from them in the future as well. MC is essentially betting that once people set foot in there and see their selection/service/etc., that they'll get repeat business and come out ahead in the end.

In case you're wondering why MC won't offer that $230 price online, it's because typically online shoppers show far less "allegiance" towards any given e-business than people do with local brick-and-mortar outlets. Such a huge discount on a popular item like the i7 won't necessarily pay off in repeat business online like it would in their physical stores.

Makes sense, I just ordered one for in store pickup tomorrow. Sucks because they only allow one purchase...I'm going to bring my girls credit card with me and see if I can make a separate purchase on her card or something and tell them we live in different households
