Hello!!

I new in understanding about this processor i7. I want to build a new Deskpot for Protein analysis and simulations. I know that I need a good processor to for type of things and the capacity to upgrade my RAM to 24 GB. I have been planning in two options: one is i7 875 k (2.9Ghz) using a motherboard DP552WB or the i7 930 (2.8Ghz) using a mother DX58SO. The price is more or less the same in my country, but I don't know which is better.

According to Intel website, i7 930 support a maximum of 24 GB Ram and the i7 875k supports only 16 GB. However both motherboards supports 16 GB, so why does the DX58SO designed for i7 930 supports only 16 GB since the procesoor supports 24 GB? or maybe I need other type motherboard.

Thanks in advance

I would go for 875K because, the i7 860 is basically a 920, except in some cases where it does win, now the i7 870, cost 2 times as much, for 12MHz of difference, now the I7 875K is 60 dollars more, and you get 12MHz, AND an unlocked multipier, so i would go with the i7 875K, however if you require a bit more mojo with your motherboards, or you need a lot of ram or somethin go for the 920 so that you can get an X58 board, which is wut i would have done, if i had some extra cash.

OP: Search the forums. I think there has been a couple of threads like this.

Pent: The i7 920/930 overclock better than any 1156 quad hands down. I would suggest the i7 875k if they were binned for better overclocking, but they are not.

Thanks to everyone
, very illustrative. I think I’ll go for a 930. I don’t now if I have to post it in other section, but which of the motherboards you recommend for the usage of i7 920 to reach 24 GB… maybe an ASUS P6T???

Yeah, an Asus P6T (Deluxe V2) would be great
