stick with what you have until ib/bd comes out. you will have to buy a new cpu, mobo, AND ram to get a sb setup going. not worth it atm unless you are dying to upgrade right now.
wow really?i need to buy a new ram also?right now i have 12gb patriot 1600mhz...but the thing is i really care about more speed i am trying to overclock my cpu to 4.5ghz but i always fail thats why i am thinkin of buying a sandy bridge.

No, just pull 2 sticks or 4 sticks out the 12Gb and use it on the board. You will still have dual channel and have some ram left over also. As no difference in dual and triple channel. It is only matched sets in 2 or 3 kits.

as for performance between dual and triple channel ram, that is negligible. i believe the difference comes down to what, a few percent? (granted you are running at the same speeds)

Well do you really need more than 4ghz?
its not worth it, unless you have money to throw away, or are doing it just for fun
IF you where building from scratch, then i would say go to Sandy.
I went from a 930 to sandybridge just because someone offered me a straight swap/trade

Really?

You do realize it is just 3 matched set of ram for triple channel right. Where as dual channel it 2 sticks matched. Example you can take 2 triple channel sets and make 3 dual channel kits out of it.

Because you can only run 4 sticks of ram. As i assume you have 2 triple channel kits for the 12Gb of ram. So that is 6 sticks of ram. Unless you are magic and can get 6 sticks of ram into 4 slots then yes. You have to remove some to use just 4 sticks.

i thought so too lol.

yes, he could run just two of his three sticks of ram (granted he has a 3x4gb setup, system info is so helpful here), but that sucks because now he is limited to 8gb of his 12gb ram setup. i guess he could sell the other stick if he wanted.

i still don't recommend going to sb from what the op has right now.

First of all, you should always list your full system specs!

Also, stick with the 930.

Having a 5.0 Ghz 2600k would be awesome, but unless you're actually going to use that raw processing power for encoding or something of the like (or you just want to spend the money to try something new- understandable), you will see no difference when playing games if you already have a decent graphics card paired with your 930 at 4.0+ Ghz.

I'd save that money for an Ivy Bridge setup or upgrade your GPU for now if you need a better one, etc.
