Without HT, cores 0-3 exist. With HT, cores 0-3 are the same - but there's a new set of cores, 4-7. Those core correspond to 1-3, and operate simultaneously. Cores 0-3 will perform almost the same despite the simultaneous operations, but cores 4-7 will perform MUCH more slowly, as they are trying to run off of cores 0-3. So the average performance per core will drop dramatically, but overall instructions will be processed significantly faster. Unfortunately, Linpack doesn't adjust for this very well, and as such you end up with a lower score. Think nothing of it.
