i got 2 920 cpus ones c0 oned d0.. Ok heres the point of this,
I got 3931a324 batch d0
and 3839a594 batch c0
i got ht on and trubo on o i got 4,200mhz.
ok this is the part i need help with, Im running 1.375 volts lowest i can go if any lower bsod. @ 4.2 with ht off i can do 1.337 volts. It seems like thare high.
Dose anyone got away to keeps volts lower. Like raising the qpi vtt or qpi pll or something in the range of that ? To many treads to read thought , On the 920 co i can get 3.2 @ 1.2 volts. Well. let the games began . I know my mobo is not the best for overclocking but still.

the uncore/vtt = the L3 memory cache and IMC, and the pll is the clock generator. So in short, no theres not really a another voltage that you can substitue for vcore. But 4.2ghz @ 1.375v is a pretty good oc... some D0s have trouble hitting 4.0ghz believe it or not.

If you're really determined to lower that vcore, you could try bumping the vtt voltage and set a 300ps clock skew.
well i could hit 4ghz on old c0. I got anew cooler coming in. with prime 95 i hit 82 degs . and thats too hot for me. I like to be jut to hit 70 degs, just keep reading ppl hit 4.2 ghz with like1.27 volt. Cooler i hope to hit lower temps is 1,900 RPM 110 cmf push pull and that mounted on to Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B. should keep 5-10 deg cooler i hope.
keeping the temps down will help. But those amazing 4ghz @ stock or 4.2 @ 1.27 are usually people that got lucky with a good overclocker... most people will hit a wall at 4 or 4.2ghz.
Do you got all cores on, turbo, or ht on(muilt treads) also whats you qpi settings? just thinging if i lower cpu volts and mess with the qpi vots i could get lower temps. also i know my mobo gots only 8 phase power. newer mobos got 12-24 phase.
setting
CPU PLL @ 1.88v
IOH @ 1.2v
seems to help me

Yes, i have all cores on, turbo enabled, but HT off in the oc in my sig. The cpu will use the same voltage and generate the same amount of heat, whether is 191 blck x 21 multi for 4ghz or 200 bclk x 20 multi for 4ghz. The higher the cpu multiplier, the less overall heat your system will generate because the mobo isn't being overclocked as much.

Your board is a fine overclocker, don't think it's holding you back. I've had over a dozen different 920's, and only one is capable of 4.2 at less than 1.3v. Your at 1.375, is that in bios or cpu-z reading in windows? You don't say what your memory is at. I would set it at x6 multi just to rule it out while you are finding the limit of the cpu.
that is in bios. memory is corsair 8-8-8-24 t2 @ 7-8-8-20 -t1 rams @ 1.64 volts cpu/pll 1.88 just cant do qpi voltage. can do both pll and vtt the resign i say mobo is not good. is because the mobo just has 8 voltage regulators, its notas clean power as most mobos.
hell I wish my d0 get 4.2ghz at 1.375 volts, this brick needs around 1.44, that's not half bad at all, more vvt maybe?
lol your avatar tha d0ctor... "Son of a *****!"

i got a 920 c0 i can see if i can push it this high @ the volts will post thos soon. i will sell the higher volt/temps cpu
think i hit the wall on this chip on air cooling with the v8

I have tried higher north/south ridge volts did not help.

You need to play with VTT/QPI voltage - some chips are absolute VTT whores. I had a 920 that would not do 4.0ghz unless the VTT was at 1.4v+. The second I bumped VTT up to 1.4, it was stable at 4.0ghz with 1.18v.

Likewise, some chips don't like VTT as much.. too high of a VTT and it actually destablizes. You'll want to play around with that. As for clock skew, that varies per chip, so you'll also need to experiment with that
well it stable now, Just think the chip can do better on volts. vtt stock and pll 1.88 (1.8 stock) i know i can get the c0 to 4 ghz qpi vtt? or pll to 1.5 and cpu volts to 1.4 and she i thare. just did not like the temps. hopeing 920 d0 under 70 degs @ full load. old e8400 c0? @ 4ghz @ 1.2 volts.e6300 @1.3 volts= 3.2 ghz. hopping for to much i think. mite need a better batch

Like I said, play with the VTT, bump it up to at least 1.35v, then try lowering the vcore. If you're trying to hit 4ghz and keep it under 70 degrees under full load on air, good luck! With my megahalems and 2 90CFM fans, I loaded at about 73C using just 1.2v.

E8400's are going to overclock alot more easily since it's a dual core. If you disabled two of the i7's cores, it'd hit 4.0 easily. Also, turn off Hyper Threading if you don't need it, it will cut your temperature down by 7-10C

that is a trick i been looking for i will try ..
bah the qpi volt trick nothing
mite work with the co tho... i had the c0 t 4 ghz 4 cores no turbo no ht. 1.4volts to cpu and 1.5 to qpi. just temps on load was to much.

well new bios. can do 21 muilt (just like before with turbo on ) but got new option dynamic vcore (dvid) well got ht off seems like lower temps then before Owell still trying to lower the volyts with ht on . @ 1.38125 volts with ht on stable linx for 2 hours. anything less and bsod or linx fails. I think the chip can do better but will tr and try.

dose anyone know the max qpi/vtt is.? i try higher but dose not make a difference.
