I for one am all for this. Not the typical "horse armor" DLC. Stuff that actually adds to the single player experience is fine with me.
|F.E.A.R. 2 is getting another piece of downloadable content, this time offering up four new single-player levels. For this outing, you'll get to experience the F.E.A.R. 2 story from a different perspective as you take on the role of replica soldier foxtrot 813. The expansion is on the way this August (no details on pricing are available just yet), so we went to Monolith Studios Associate Producer Lucas Myers for more.|
IGN: Will the four new levels take us to new locations that we didn't get to see in FEAR 2 or will we be treading known territory?
Lucas Myers: One of the main goals the team set out to achieve with FEAR 2: Reborn was to come up with new and interesting environments that would expand on what we put into the original game. We went to great pains to offer our fans as much diversity as possible within the new campaign. As the player experiences the story of Replica Foxtrot 813, they will get to transition into different spaces within any given mission to move the story forward. Ultimately, we wanted to show off environments that kept our audience interested by providing more open and vertical spaces than we had achieved in the past.

IGN: Does foxtrot 813 have any special powers or will slo-mo be a no go?
Lucas Myers: Let's face it: Slow-Mo is a staple of FEAR combat. If we didn't find a way to give Foxtrot 813 our signature hyper-reflexes, then it really wouldn't be FEAR, would it? While we won't give away how Foxtrot 813 comes to have these powers, rest assured that players can expect the same tension and over-the-top combat encounters that they loved from FEAR 2.
IGN: Are the four stages about as long as a normal FEAR 2 stage? About how long will it take to make it through this download?
Lucas Myers: Each of our four missions are designed to offer approximately the same play-time as their retail counterparts. Internal tests have put the total length of the campaign at more than two hours on average. Hearing the pleas of our fans, we have put a significant amount of effort into creating a fun, challenging experience. With new combat situations and combined enemy types, players who push themselves to play on the harder difficulty modes will find themselves facing much tougher opposition and longer play-times than in the retail game.
IGN: What makes Replica Soldier 813 so special as to warrant his own storyline?
Lucas Myers: Nice try, but we can't spoil the entire mystery! The major crux of the story arc is exactly that: finding out why Foxtrot 813 is special; why he is being singled out… and for what purpose.
IGN: What's the news on any additional achievements or trophies?
Lucas Myers: There will definitely be new achievements/trophies in FEAR 2: Reborn. We tried to focus on gameplay elements that would challenge the player into approaching the missions from a non-standard perspective. Ultimately we wanted to encourage diversity… not just your typical run-and-gun 'Complete this Mission' fare. But you'll have to play it for yourself to see them!
